Toiling at the computer, integrating vocabulary words into this post.

Challenge me to try something new and, unless it’s life-threatening or stomach-turning, I’m there.

Today, a word-worried student stood at my desk and quietly announced that she was going to fail the vocabulary quiz

(now rescheduled for Tuesday).

Uh oh. Our vocabulary words are drawn directly from our reading, and they’re pretty awesome words. There’s no need to panic; it’s time to supersize your confidence by meeting my weekend challenge!

Tonight, I’m challenging myself to use all of our eight vocabulary words in my post. Over the weekend, I’m asking you to do the same…with at least FIVE of the vocabulary words. You choose which ones!  Besides using at least five of our vocabulary words correctly in your original post, be sure to review the words with a parent, sibling, or fellow student. Once you know these essential words–and use them–you’ll own them. And that, my dear students, is priceless. Should you need duplicates of the vocabulary cards for studying purposes, you’ll find PDF files for each week’s words on my homework calendar.

It’s past the bewitching hour, my eyes are blurry, and my hands are weary. So….here goes with my answer to this weekend’s vocabulary challenge. I can’t wait to read yours! Post them here!

I had toiled for hours in Grandma’s dusty attic, digging through a tangled mess of boxes and bins when I spotted the red, white, and blue metal. Amazingly, I’d found a rare Civil Rights Act button, a relic from an era of segregation and indignation. The minute I got home, my 10-year-old son, Sean, went spastic with excitement, desperate to wrap his history-loving hands around the newfound treasure. When I informed my amateur antique hunter that his overdue bibliography was priority one, he stomped away sulky and petulant. Now I have to figure out a way to integrate this historical artifact into my next classroom lesson. 🙂
