“If you don’t know where you are going, you’ll end up someplace else.” ― Yogi Berra
“If you want to live a happy life, tie it to a goal, not to people or things.” ― Albert Einstein
Last week, we articulated our big plans for sixth grade. What did you want most to accomplish between now and June 16? What was on your to-do list? What priorities have you set? Are you determined to make new friends? Do you want to earn better grades? Are you focused on improving in a subject that left you feeling overly challenged or frustrated last year?
What are your dreams for today, tomorrow, and the rest of the year? Dreams only come true when you believe they can. Do you believe in the awesomeness that resides inside you? Do you recognize that you’re already an expert in oodles of things? You could surely teach Mrs. Rombach many things, starting with how to take a presentable selfie. (Currently, I am an epic failure in the selfie department.). The bottom line is this: I believe in each of you, and recognize the gifts you bring to my class every day. You may not love to read or write — yet — but you’re passionate about something.
What is that something? Your Wednesday night homework is to watch this TedX video (it’s less than 5 minutes long), and then tell me: What would YOU attempt to do if you knew you could not fail? From landing a difficult trick with your skateboard to someday hosting your own YouTube channel, share one goal you’ve set for yourself. It may take you 2 months or 10 years to reach that goal, but just putting it here in black and white makes it real. Share your goal in a comment–and let me know how this video inspired you to dream big.

Next Monday, I’ll ask you to complete a Google survey on your reading and writing goals for the First Quarter. As the week progresses, contemplate what kind of goals you might set for yourself as a reader and as a writer.
Remember, study Weeks 1 & 2 vocabulary words on www.quizlet.com and be prepared for the vocabulary quiz on Friday. Also on Friday, be sure to bring your completed weekly homework sheet.
Spread happiness with your smiles and positive outlook!

I’m leaving this comment now, because I couldn’t figure out how back in September and then I forgot. The boy in the video seemed really smart. I want to buy that Bustin Jieber app. If I could do anything, I would find a cure for cancer.
Hello Mrs. Rombach!
I loved your post, it gave me a lot to think about. If I could do anything without failing, I would write a book. I would know that people were going to read my book, which would make me work harder so they would have something good to read. The book would probably be a book series. I wouldn’t just write it for my own benefit, I would make the story a lesson, or put facts in the nook so people could learn about new things. If you wrote a book, or if you already have, what would it be about? I loved all the books on your blog, reading is one of my favorite things to do. The bookshelves gave me some ideas on books to read.

Thanks for your thoughtful comment! Maybe you’d write a book like former English teacher, Sharon Draper, who penned Out of My Mind. Draper’s book, which was selected as last year’s international read-a-loud, is about the struggles of Melody, a middle schooler with cerebral palsy whose mind percolates with brilliance–though she’s never spoken a word. It’s so good it’ll make your skin prickle. 🙂 Check it out if you haven’t yet read it. As for what I’d do…write short stories, books, even poetry, and most definitely take up watercolor painting again. I miss feeding my artsy side. 🙂 Thanks so much for stopping by! Next time, please be sure to leave your URL so I can return the visit. 🙂
Mrs. Rombach
Hi Mrs.Rombach sorry for not commenting sooner i didn’t see this video on the day i got the assignment and didn’t do it,so i am going to do it now. I would make blueprints and lots of diagrams on how the first flying car would look like and how it would work without using a lot of money. WHEN they accept my idea I would have a team of engineers to build it.
this video was good
You always read my mind! I want to make a YouTube channel on what I like!
really cool and and inspiring.
I think he did a wonder full job on creating apps
I loved this video, it was so funny!
Hi Mrs.Rombach!
It looks like there are a whole another group of kids ready to have a great year with you! Hope to visit you soon!
Stay Happy 🙂

I’ll look forward to seeing you!
Nice video, very inspirational. Maybe I should start making apps too.
I am in awe of how he programmed and made apps on the apple gadgets. He was so inspiring and I learnt to continue to work to reach my goals as well. He is a huge inspiration to me.
This video is great! I hope in the future other people can make and change to a better future.
I would open up a small business, a line of bakeries, a plan of libraries, etc. I know a lot of people struggle with opening up businesses because of cash; but if I couldn’t fail then what’s stopping me?
This video is so cool! If I were not afraid of anything i would sing in front of my my chorus class or any class actully
This video is funny, amazing, and inspiring!
Awesome!
I would attempt to make a time machine that lets you go back in time and change history and meet deceased people. From deceased family, to the first president of the USA, to when the indians were alive, and last into the future to create wonder!
This video inspired me because it shows you that no matter what age, size, or country you are in you can accomplish ANYTHING if you just try your hardest and give it all you’ve got. When you’ve already succeded like the boy in the video you can help others reach their goals.
Excellent, thoughtful response, Mariya! 🙂
When i saw this video, It made me re-think about what I can do. This kid taught me that you don’t have to be a software engineer with a technology degree to create an app. You can be a kid my age and change the world just by doing the impossible. After I saw the video, I even started thinking abut creating my own app for the Iphone.
Kyle, After witnessing your yo-yo talents, I can imagine you creating your own apps, too! 🙂 Go for it! 🙂
I found this very inspiring to me was also a little funny. I hope there is more videos like this! I want to be a sports broadcaster in the next 20 some years!
I liked the video it was funny! I don’t know what i would do! What would you do Mrs.Rombach?
Sarah – I would really like to publish a book. I’m not yet sure whether it would be a children’s book or a young adult novel, but that’s my goal. You wonderful sixth graders inspire me. 🙂
Great video!!
I really likes that video it inspires me to never give up and go for your big dreams. I think it shows that even 6th graders can accomplish anything.
This is a very inspiring and funny video., and I’m not saying that because the homework wants me to. This really is an inspiring and funny video that i think kids around the world should watch.
What school does this kid go to?
I’m not sure, Patrick. 🙂
i loved this video!
I liked it
I liked it too.
Great video i really liked it!
I would create a video game that is E+10 for every one.
My answer to the question would be to attempt the most craziest things, like trying to skydive without a parachute
Xander, please don’t do that. There’s a parachute for a reason. Body hurling towards Earth without a parachute won’t have a happy ending. Yeeks!
This video was so cool Mrs. Rombach I want to do something like this one day. That kid must be so smart.
